Piccola Virgolo is a tiny climbing area located right next to the city of Bolzano, so close that it can easily be reached on foot directly from the city center.
The crag consists of a small porphyry wall featuring 9 lines with grades ranging from 4 to 6a. The climbing style focuses on a short, technical slab, making it an excellent spot for beginners who want to take their first steps on outdoor rock. Among the routes, the best lines to try are Cakewalk, La bestia nera, and Chiudi il buco.
Despite its proximity to the city and its location along a busy walking path, the crag is not very well known. This means it is rarely crowded, allowing you to enjoy a few hours of absolute tranquility. The south/south-west exposure ensures the wall receives sun almost all day, keeping it warm and pleasant even during the winter months.
The bolting is mixed; while not particularly recent, it remains in good and safe condition. The base of the crag is very comfortable and family-friendly, located just a few meters from the small parking spot. It even features a cozy bench where you can sit, relax, and enjoy a beautiful panoramic view over Bolzano.

Since you are right above Bolzano, the extra-climbing options are endless. You can walk down to the historical city center to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere under the famous arcades, visit the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology to meet Ötzi the Iceman, or taste some fantastic local wines and traditional South Tyrolean dishes. The area is also surrounded by beautiful hiking trails and serves as a perfect gateway to explore the majestic Dolomites.

Piccola Virgolo è una piccolissima area di arrampicata letteralmente attaccata alla città di Bolzano, tanto da poter essere raggiunta comodamente a piedi dal centro.
La falesia è caratterizzata da un piccolo muro di porfido che offre 9 linee con difficoltà dal 4 al 6a. Lo stile di arrampicata si sviluppa lungo una breve placca tecnica: le sue caratteristiche la rendono una falesia ideale per i principianti e ottima per chi vuole muovere i primi passi sulla roccia. Tra i tiri da non perdere spiccano Cakewalk, La bestia nera e Chiudi il buco.
Essendo poco conosciuta, Piccola Virgolo è un luogo molto tranquillo e poco frequentato, perfetto per passare qualche ora di relax lontano dalla folla nonostante si trovi lungo una passeggiata molto amata dai pedoni. L'esposizione a sud / sud-ovest garantisce sole per quasi tutto il giorno, mantenendo la roccia calda e accogliente anche durante l'inverno.
La chiodatura è mista; seppur non particolarmente recente, risulta comunque buona e sicura. La base della parete è decisamente comoda e adatta anche a chi è accompagnato da bambini o famiglie. A pochi metri dalla roccia, troverete anche una comoda panchina da cui si può godere di una bellissima vista panoramica sulla città.

Trovandosi praticamente in città, le alternative all'arrampicata non mancano. Potete scendere nel centro storico per passeggiare sotto i celebri portici, visitare il Museo Archeologico dell'Alto Adige per ammirare la mummia di Ötzi, oppure rilassarvi gustando un buon calice di vino locale e le specialità della cucina altoatesina. La zona offre inoltre innumerevoli sentieri per il trekking ed è il punto di partenza perfetto per esplorare le Dolomiti.
