Pistohiekan kalliolta löytyy melko pieni määrä kiivettävää mutta linjat tarjoavat mukavaa tekemistä ja jokainen metri on kunnon kiipeilyä. Kivenlaatu on pääosin erinomainen. Kallio on korkeimmillaan noin 19m ja useat reitit ovat muutaman asteen negatiivisia. Lähestyminen on lyhyt ja kallio sopii kohtuullisesti myös lapsien oleskeluun. Kallion ollessa verrattaen uusi, pitää muistaa että kalliosta voi vielä irrota otteita yllättäen, sekä ylhäällä on viettävää rinnettä josta voi aina lähteä pieniä irtokiviä vierimään alaspäin, joten kannattaa toimia sen mukaisesti.(Turvallisimmat paikat istuskeluun on aivan kallion juurella oleva koivupukki sekä hieman ulompana oleva erillinen koivupukki.) Kallion alla varmistajan alue säilyy varjossa koko päivän mutta itse kallio on auringossa klo11 jälkeen. Pienemmät tunnin-parin sadekuurot eivät kastele päällä olevaa maata ja kallion ollessa aurinkoon päin, se kuivuu todella nopeasti tai säilyy jopa kuivana. Kallion parhaiten kuivana säilyvät reitit on Big-Y 7a, Big-Y variaatio 7a, Luuloterve 6b+ sekä Nanga 6c+. Jos edeltävinä päivinä on satanut reilusti, kallio valuttaa muutamista kohdista läpi kunnes päälläoleva maa-aines kuivuu. Yleensä tällöinkään edellämainitut reitit eivät valuta.
Vasemmanpuoleisille reiteille (MoBander-Hormipäivä) on ylhäällä yksi yhteinen laskeutumisankkuri, jolta pääsee laskeutumaan reittien varsinaisille ankkureille jotta ohuet männyt eivät vaurioidu.

🇬🇧 Pistohiekka Crag offers a relatively small amount of climbing, but the lines provide enjoyable climbing, and every metre is proper climbing. The rock quality is mostly excellent. The crag reaches approximately 19 m at its highest point, and several routes are slightly overhanging.
The approach is short, and the crag is reasonably suitable for children to spend time at as well. As the crag is relatively new, keep in mind that holds may still unexpectedly break off. There is also a sloping hillside above the crag from which small loose rocks may occasionally start rolling down, so act accordingly.
The safest places to sit are the birch bench directly at the base of the crag and the separate birch bench slightly further away.
The belayer's area beneath the crag remains shaded throughout the day, while the actual rock face is in the sun after 11:00. Short showers lasting an hour or two usually do not soak the ground above the crag, and because the rock faces towards the sun, it dries very quickly or may remain dry altogether.
The routes that stay driest are Big-Y 7a, Big-Y Variation 7a, Luuloterve 6b+ and Nanga 6c+. If there has been substantial rainfall during the preceding days, water may seep through the rock in a few places until the soil above the crag dries out. Even then, the routes mentioned above usually remain dry.
For the routes on the left-hand side (MoBander–Hormipäivä), there is a shared lowering anchor at the top. From this anchor, you can lower down to the individual route anchors in order to avoid damaging the thin pine trees.
At the nearby pond, you will find swimming steps built by Saimaan Kiipeilijät ry, providing a great opportunity for a swim after climbing. Check the topo map!
For overnight stays, we recommend Pistohiekka Camping or one of the free wild camping spots in the surrounding area.
Making fires at Pistohiekka Crag or in its parking areas is prohibited.
