Description

Two rocks.

The one in Pöllökallio has only 6 routes currently. The rock quality is mediocre to bad, but at least Keilahalli, 7A is worth your time, and the other 5 are nice to warm up on. The rock is small, only 2-3 m tall. Landings are decent. Some shade but not a ton. Only one pad is required, but some routes might require stacking so 2 is recommended.

Porablokki at Rajatorpantie is also relatively small. It has an overhanging side with a decent 6C problem and some unclimbed hard(?) projects, a vertical side with an easy problem and two slab sides with a ton of easy routes. Two pads are recommended for the 6C, while the others you can handle with one small pad. There is no shade, and the rock is basically moss free, so it dries quickly! The spot is nice, although people walk past relatively frequently, and the rock is right next to a road so there is some noise from that. Otherwise this is a pretty decent place to climb at.

History

Climbing at Pöllökallio began at around 2011-12, when Kooro Eski FA'd the two first routes at the crag. In the following years, new routes were slowly added, with the most recent (at the time of writing) being done in 2021.

Porablokki was first spotted from the windows of a bus during the late winter of 2023. Climbing was started in early spring of 2024 by Asikainen and Virtala with snow still on the ground. Development was finished and the crag was published June 2024, following the FA of the 6C problem.

In 2026 Pöllökallio was added to the crag due to it being very close by, and the crag was renamed to better reflect the new situation.
