Description

This small sandstone bouldering area near Shulaveri offers a convenient winter escape just one hour drive from Tbilisi. The location is sunny, exposed, and generally dry, making it climbable throughout most of the winter season when other areas are too cold or snowy.

⚠️ VENOMOUS SNAKES ⚠️
The area is home to the Macrovipera lebetinus (Levant viper / blunt-nosed viper), one of the most dangerous venomous snakes in the region. They may be active in warm weather and can hide between rocks, under boulders, or in shaded landings. Watch where you step or place your hands, especially when cleaning, spotting, or approaching blocs.

The rock here is sandstone, and the overall quality is variable. As this is a newly developed area, most problems have seen only a handful of ascents, so climbers should approach every line with caution.

❗ BE VERY CAREFUL ❗
Always test holds before committing, loose blocks are possible, so stay alert.

Despite the chossy nature in places, the area offers enjoyable movement, short approaches, and potential for more development.

Please climb gently, avoid cleaning aggressively, brush off chalk and tickmarks, and help preserve the rock for future visitors.

History

The bouldering area near the village of Shulaveri is a recent discovery in the climbing community. The first recorded ascents were made in late 2025 by a small group of the bouldering enthusiasts who began developing the sector during the colder months.
