Considered as one of the temples of traditional climbing in Alicante, Penya Roc offers the only sports climbing wall in the entire province of Alicante that always remains in the shade. Located in the Racó de Tovaines and protected by walls that rise more than 100 meters from the ground, this atypical sector contains 7 sports routes of a very special morphology and magnitude. They are located in a huge overhang of about 50 meters high and its rock, a white limestone with crimps, pockets and countless tufas of all sizes, gives rise to some of the most spectacular routes of the entire Costa Blanca. The easiest route is an 7a, making it a place clearly reserved for the strongest climbers.
Description
History
Despite having attracted the attention of a large number of mountaineers, it was Jorge Soriano and Roberto López who began bolting the first routes of the sector in the early 2011. During the first development phase, attention was focused on the left side of the crag, where some of the most obvious lines of this crag can be found. After that, there was a hiatus of nearly a decade until Olivier Bousquet rediscovered its huge potential and revived the area with impressive routes of up to three pitches and over 40 meters in length. Finally, in recent years, a group of local climbers led by Jorge Murcia has taken over, bolting almost the entire right side of the wall and completing one of the most spectacular sectors in the whole Costa Blanca.
